I. Words and expressions
1. in connection with   concerning 与……有关的
connect  v. 连接  be connected with 与……相连的
Pansy spoke to two teenagers in connection with the first article. Pansy与两个和第一篇文章有关的青少年进行了交淡。
2. series  n. 　group similar things; events occurring one after another 系列
a series on family life.　一个有关家庭生活的系列
3. generous allowance   plentiful pocket money 足够多的零花钱

11. anything extra 任何额处的东西
My parents won’t give me anything extra. 我的父母不会给我任何额外的东西.

argument  n. 争论争吵

16. responsibility  n. 责任，义务

My parents give me presents now and again, usually things that I can use. 我的父母不时地给我一些礼物，通常都是我能用到的东西。
Be serious about doing sth  认真地做某事，严肃地对待某事
When they saw that I was serious about learning tennis, they bought me a good racket.  当他们看到我很认真地在学习网球，他们就给我买了一副好拍子。

II. Language Structure
Object Clause 宾语从句
充当谓语动词或者介词的宾语的句子为宾语从句。
1. 引导从句的连接词
陈述句由that 引导，that 通常可以省略，如：
The book is useful.
I think (that) the book is useful.
一般疑问句由if/whether（是否）引导，选择疑问句只能由whether 引导，如：
Will it rain this afternoon?
I don’t know if/whether it will rain this afternoon.
Is the baby a boy of a girl?
She asked whether the baby was a boy or a girl.
特殊疑问句由原句的特殊疑问词引导，如：
where do you live?
He wants to know where you live.
2. 宾语从句的语序为陈述语序，如：
Where is the nearest underground station?
The man asked where the nearest underground station was.
3. 主句与宾语从句时态的一致性
当主句的谓语动词为一般过去时的时候，从句的谓语用相应的过去时态，变化规律为：
主句：过去时（一般过去时或过去完成时）
从句：一般现在时——一般过去时
现在进行时——过去进行时
一般将来时——过去将来时
一般过去时——过去完成时／一般过去时（与特定的过去时间状语连用）
现在完成时——过去完成时
如：What will she be like in 10 years’ time?
Mary wondered what she would be like in 10 years’ time.
当从句中表达的是客观事实或真理时，从句时态不受主句影响，用一般现在时，如：
The teacher told the students that light travels faster than sound.
4. 人称一致
在改写宾语从句时，要注意人称的变化，如：
I never grumble about anything.
Paul said that he never grumbled about anything.

1. Until you are old enough, we will make the decisions that we think are best for you. 我们将做出我们认为对你最佳的决定，直到你足够大，能独立为止。
2. They say it’s bad to expect things for nothing. 他们说不付出任何努力就得到所想要的，这不是一件好事。
